Fernando Alonso took an undeserved victory in Germany this Sunday when team orders stood in the way of Felipe Massa. Surprisingly, Ferrari made such a big improvement in the developments that their race pace was the fastest on the track, I think no one was expecting them to be that fast even they were not sure that where will they be in the race.
Felipe Massa started his domination from the very first lap, just as my prediction the Paulista made a flying start which he termed as the best of the season so far, he passed Alonso (he was side by side with him in the first 4-5 meters) and struggling Vettle to gain the race lead at the very first corner of the Hockeneim circuit. Both the Ferrari drivers were exchanging fastest lap times with Massa maintaining a lead of over 3 seconds till the first pit stop. Once again Ferrari favoured Alonso by bringing him in the pits earlier than his team mate, Massa made his pit stop in the very next lap but he had lesser time to get the tyres to the working temperature as Alonso was charging from behind due to to which the Brazilian was struggling on the harder compound tyres (although he is struggling on the hard compound this season but this time it was a lil. . . .) & locked his tyre’s 4-5 times. During this period Alonso tried a move past him but the rock solid Brazilian defended his position and blocked Alonso, later we heard Alonso crying “this is ridiculous”. Massa once again opened a nice gap to his team mate and was cruising to victory until Rob Smedely (Massa’s race engineer) came on the radio and said “Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm you understand that message??? On lap 49, Felipe slowed down and gave way to his teammate. This was the only way how Alonso could have passed him. Later on Smedely came in once again and said “ok, good lad,now stick with him, sorry”. Alonso took the Chequred flag, Massa second, Vettle curised in third position ahead of the Mclaren’s of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson button respectively. Mark Webber drove his Red Bull in sixth place as he was experiencing some oil problems, then it was Kubica, the two Mercedes GP cars and the Renualt of the Russian rookie Vitaly Petrov. Schumi made a perfect start and overtook 3 cars including his team mate Nico Rosberg but changed his strategy and pitted earilier than planned which didn’t worked out well and in the end finished behind his team mate.
On the very same date 25th July last year Massa suffered a life threatening injury at Budapest and spent days in coma there, which kept him away from the racing arena that year(2009). It would have been a very special moment for him but his team handed the victory to the undeserving guy. On the podium Alonso was celebrating his victory where as Massa was just pretending as if he's celebrating. Later in the press conference Massa gave clear indications that he was ordered to slow down. I enjoyed the questions from the journalists as they all launched an attack on Alonso.
Anyways Ferrari made a big step forward everyone was praising them until lap 49, when everyone started criticizing them for their wrong and dirty tactics as they shattered Felipe Massa’s dream by just saying “you understand that message”. . . . . . . . . . .
